Asia University 2022 Sustainable Practice Deepening Campus Competition (Faculty and Staff Edition)

Purpose of the Event
In response to challenges such as climate and environmental changes, social inclusion, economic development, and the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial to establish a progressive, safe, hygienic, healthy, and humane learning environment. This event aims to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), starting with campus insights on environmental ecology, economic development, social inclusion, and innovative teaching related to sustainability issues. Faculty members are invited to participate in teams, contributing ideas for the university, with the goal of encouraging all faculty and staff to practice sustainability collectively.

Objectives of the Event

  • To understand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their impact on human life.
  • To propose ways and plans to implement the SDGs in practical settings.
  • To implement strategies and actions for sustainable practices on campus to deepen the sustainability efforts.

Event Content Guidelines

  1. The competition is divided into two stages:

    • Basic Competition (Stage A): Participants will submit a project proposal and introduce the plan in a presentation (10-minute presentation, 5-minute Q&A). After the evaluation, feedback will be announced the next day. Those selected will be eligible for a subsidy of NT$100,000.
    • Advanced Competition (Stage B): The primary evaluation will be based on the implementation results of the project.
  2. Participants or teams will select a topic for the project proposal and implementation. The selected topics must align with the relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  3. The results of the advanced competition can take any form, but must be practical, usable, and executable, such as a product, model, service design (e.g., website, app), or practical implementation results.

  4. The results of the advanced competition must be applicable within the campus or nearby community. Participants should specify the context, environment, or target audience for the application.

  5. If a project violates any copyrights, patents, or other legal rights, the participants or team will bear full legal responsibility and compensation. In the event of a legal defeat, the organizer will revoke the awarded prizes.

Registration and Submission Process

  1. Online Registration:
    This event will be conducted in teams. To complete registration, teams should fill out the registration form at the provided registration URL.

  2. Submission of Materials and Works:

    • Basic Stage Evaluation: Submit the project proposal in the required format as a PDF file to the submission section.
    • Advanced Stage Evaluation: Submit a 3-5 minute video introduction of the project (with both Chinese and English subtitles), a thumbnail image, and the project report (submission portal not yet open).

    Issue definition, experimental design, and methods.
    Feasibility analysis of the proposed project.

  • A3. Expected Impact of the Results: 25%
    Definition of expected outcomes and challenges.
    Evaluation of the potential impact of the outcomes.
    Evaluation of the feasibility of practical application.

  • A4. Creativity: 30%
    Level of creativity in the proposal.
    Feasibility of creative ideas.

[B. Advanced Stage Competition]

  • B1. Relevance of the Project to Sustainable Development Issues: 30%
    Degree of implementation of the project.
    Review of the project's execution.

  • B2. Completeness of the Project Results Report: 20%
    Consistency between the project concept and results.
    Completeness of the report.

  • B3. Application and Impact Value: 30%

  • B4. Performance of the Project Results: 20%
    Presentation of the results.
    Creativity of the result presentation.
    Interactivity of the results presentation.

Awards and Number of Prizes

  • Basic Stage Competition
    After a review by the expert committee, 10 teams will be selected. Each team will receive a prize of NT$10,000 and be eligible for additional funding of up to NT$100,000 for material costs in the advanced stage.

  • Advanced Stage Competition

    • First Place (1 team): Award certificate for each team member, NT$30,000 in prize money.
    • Second Place (1 team): Award certificate for each team member, NT$20,000 in prize money.
    • Third Place (1 team): Award certificate for each team member, NT$10,000 in prize money.
    • Honorable Mention (2 teams): Award certificate for each team member.

    Note: Scholarships will only be awarded if the selected teams meet the evaluation criteria. If no team meets the standards, the prize may remain vacant.

Important Notes:

  • Late submissions may result in disqualification.
  • The organizer reserves the right to review participant eligibility. If discrepancies are found, such as failure to comply with the event regulations, the organizer may disqualify teams and reclaim any prizes or rewards.
  • Each participant is limited to being the team leader of only one team. Teams can have 2 to 5 members. If there are changes in team members, written approval must be submitted to the organizer at least one week before the submission deadline.
  • By participating, individuals consent to the collection and use of their personal data in accordance with privacy protection laws. Participants can review their rights under the Personal Data Protection Act.
  • By registering, participants confirm that they have read and agree to the event rules and regulations.
  • Any unresolved matters will be handled by the organizer, who reserves the right to modify or explain the regulations. All changes will be announced on the official website.
