Workshop on Food Safety and Health Care: Pseudomonas cocovenenans and Sudan Red in Food Safety

In today’s society, food safety has become a global focus of attention. In the fields of food safety and healthcare, the Asia University Food Safety Center (AUC Food Safety Center) plays a crucial role. With the support of the Ministry of Education’s USR (University Social Responsibility) program, the center has been actively promoting various educational and research activities in recent years. Led by Professor Jiang Yu-zheng, a faculty member of the Department of Health Sciences and the director of the Food Safety Center, the center is dedicated to enhancing students’ and the public’s awareness of food safety, particularly regarding the safety of food additives such as Cylindrocarpon destructans and Sudan Red.

Professor Jiang is well aware of the impact that food safety incidents can have on consumer confidence. Therefore, he leads second-year students from the Department of Health Sciences on visits to Aitomeng Inspection Technology Co., Ltd., a leading company specializing in food and traditional Chinese medicine testing. During this “Day as an Inspector” event, students not only learned about food safety and inspection-related knowledge but also experienced the laboratory testing processes firsthand, including rapid testing for pesticide residues in rice.

Aitomeng Inspection Company is certified by the TFDA (Taiwan Food and Drug Administration) and TAF (Taiwan Accreditation Foundation) and is equipped with the most advanced testing instruments, capable of providing accurate test results within a short period. Professor Jiang and the company’s experts provided the students with detailed introductions to these instruments and testing procedures and guided them through hands-on operations. This not only deepened the students’ understanding of food inspection but also laid a solid foundation for their future careers in the field of food safety.

Through such practical learning experiences, the AUC Food Safety Center and Professor Jiang demonstrate their commitment to food safety education and provide students with valuable learning opportunities. These experiences will help students effectively address food safety challenges in the future and contribute to building a safer and healthier food supply chain. As awareness of food safety continues to rise, we have every reason to believe that these young food safety experts will play important roles in the future, bringing positive impacts to society.
