Asia University invited Shin Yi Group Founder Chou Chun-chi yesterday (11th) to deliver a lecture on "Sustainable Development." Founder Chou emphasized that if both universities and industries fulfill their social responsibilities, they can enhance sustainable development. President Cai Jin-fa praised Shin Yi Group for demonstrating a spirit of public welfare, spreading goodness, and exerting positive social influence. The lecture attracted approximately 250 faculty members and students online, along with Asia University administrators. President Cai highlighted that Founder Chou, from the first day of his entrepreneurial journey, committed to revolutionizing the service industry with "business ethics" at its core. He has long been dedicated to promoting corporate ethics education and was invited in 2015 to serve as an advisory committee member for the "University Teaching Excellence Program," the predecessor of the Higher Education Sprout Project. Under Chou's leadership, Shin Yi Realty received Taiwan's highest corporate honor—the National Quality Award—in 2005. The company has continued to extend its influence, earning the "Presidential Culture Award" in 2017 for its "Community as One Family Project," being named one of the "World's Most Ethical Companies" in 2018, and receiving the "Asia's Best Employer Brand Award" in 2019. In recent years, Shin Yi Group has further committed to systematic carbon reduction and net-zero plans, positioning itself as a pioneer in ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) for sustainable development in Taiwan.

Founder Chou Chun-chi began his lecture by congratulating Asia University on its recent international rankings. He highlighted the remarkable achievement of a 21-year-old institution being recognized in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings and World University Rankings. Chou attributed this success to Asia University's three key pillars of education: talent cultivation, knowledge innovation, and fulfilling social responsibility. He emphasized that achieving social responsibility both at schools and in businesses is the foundation for realizing sustainable development goals. Chou pointed out the paradigm shift from the traditional belief that "a company's sole responsibility is profit" to the modern view that "companies should add value to all stakeholders." He elaborated on the broader scope of responsibility, including shareholders, employees, customers, communities, and the environment. Chou stressed that merely achieving corporate social responsibility (CSR) is insufficient. Companies must withstand evaluation against ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria and work towards the vision of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). |

Founder Chou Chun-chi provided examples of Sinyi Enterprise's long-term commitment to the three pillars of ESG. In the environmental dimension, Sinyi developed a zero-carbon island in Sabah, Malaysia. Originally planned to host ten resorts, the project was scaled down to two resorts, avoiding a high-carbon-footprint airplane runway in favor of lower-carbon maritime transportation. Reforestation was undertaken on the island, alongside the establishment of a sea turtle and coral reef restoration center. Additionally, eco-friendly food programs were implemented, and clean energy and recycling practices were adopted to offset emissions, restoring the island's natural ecological balance.

In the social dimension, Sinyi Enterprise's "Community as One" project earned the Presidential Culture Award, marking it as Taiwan's largest and longest-running corporate sponsorship for social development. The initiative embodies the philosophy of harmony and beauty, beginning with community public affairs and integrating corporate social responsibility into everyday operations, fostering mutual growth and prosperity with local communities. Internally, Sinyi goes above and beyond in employee care, sharing one-third of after-tax profits with staff, providing a subsidy of NT$120,000 for a second child, and offering a comprehensive onboarding program for new hires. By prioritizing employee well-being, Sinyi creates a sense of happiness that translates into exceptional service, contributing to a virtuous cycle of sustainable corporate operations. In the governance dimension, Sinyi transitioned from a Quality Management Committee to an Ethics Management Committee, with Founder Chou Chun-chi serving as the first Chief Ethics Officer, underscoring the company's commitment to corporate ethics. For seven consecutive years, Sinyi has ranked in the top 5% of the Corporate Governance Evaluation, one of only ten companies in Taiwan to achieve this distinction. Its robust governance framework strengthens corporate resilience and sustainability. |
At the end of the lecture, Asia University executives engaged in interactive Q&A sessions and praised Shin Kong Group as a warm-hearted enterprise. They commended its role in fostering community prosperity, acting as a steward for local concerns, creating innovative value in the service sector, and shaping a distinctive model for the service industry.
