Committed to building a sustainable, friendly, and safe green university, Asia University was honored at the "2024 TCSA Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards" with double accolades in the university category. This marks the second consecutive year the university has received dual awards from TCSA. Vice President and Deputy Sustainability Officer Dr. Shao-Liang Chang represented the university at the awards ceremony, emphasizing that this recognition affirms Asia University's efforts in sustainable development.

Asia University Launches "2024 Sustainable Development Learning Month" and "Central Asia University Alliance Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility Forum"
Asia University has launched a new "Sustainable Development and Management Interdisciplinary Program", aiming to cultivate students into future leaders with sustainability as a core value.The annual series of sustainable learning activities hosted by Asia University and China Medical University under the "Central Asia University Alliance" officially opened on the 19th at Asia University's Rodin Plaza. This year, through the "Asia University 2024 Sustainable Development Learning Month" and "Central Asia University Alliance Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility Forum", a series of social responsibility programs, research findings, advocacy actions, and lectures were shared, highlighting the two universities' social responsibility projects and sustainable development initiatives.
Asia University has also introduced the "Sustainable Development and Management Interdisciplinary Program" to help students become leaders and change-makers with sustainability at the core of their values.
Asia University President Dr. Ching-Fa Tsai emphasized that as the world faces unprecedented challenges due to climate change, universities must not only be knowledge transmitters but also drivers of social change. Over the past year, Asia University successfully implemented three Ministry of Education university-featured social responsibility (USR) projects focusing on health and well-being, food safety, and AI applications. The university has also strongly supported three internal USR initiatives, encouraging faculty and students to explore innovative sustainable practices at the grassroots level. These efforts have been highly recognized both domestically and internationally, with Asia University receiving the "Sustainable University Excellence Award" and "Sustainability Report Award" at the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) for two consecutive years.

The Times Higher Education (THE) has released its 2024 World University Impact Rankings, where Asia University is ranked between 401-600 globally, 8th in Taiwan, and 5th among private universities. This marks Asia University's 6th consecutive year on the list.

Asia University Ranks 1st in Taiwan in AI and Green & Sustainable Studies in the "2025 U.S. News & World Report Global University Rankings"
Asia University is committed to cultivating talent in AI-driven smart healthcare and green professionals for sustainable development. In the "2025 U.S. News & World Report Global University Rankings" released in August, Asia University ranked 115th globally and 1st in Taiwan in Artificial Intelligence, and 71st globally and 1st in Taiwan in Green and Sustainable Science & Technology.
Dr. Mei-Ching Yin, Vice President of Research and Development, highlighted that the university's top rankings in these two fields are based on academic performance, including the number of published papers, the quality of journals, and citation counts. In the field of AI, only two universities in Taiwan made the rankings, and in Green & Sustainable Science, only three universities in Taiwan were included. Asia University has 19 scholars selected as the world's top 2% scientists by Stanford University, with 10 of them in the AI field.
President Dr. Ching-Fa Tsai mentioned that Asia University has kept pace with international trends by establishing an AI research center seven years ago. Last year, the university collaborated with Harvard and MIT on AI smart healthcare projects. The university also received AI-related equipment from AMD and established the "AMD Logic and Computing Laboratory". Additionally, discussions were held with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang to explore collaborative research in healthcare, further solidifying Asia University's global recognition in the AI field.
10 Universities in Central Taiwan Sign the "2024 Climate Change and Education Declaration"
Ten universities in central Taiwan, including the Central Taiwan M6 University System and the Central Taiwan University Social Responsibility Project Cross-School Alliance, recently gathered at China Medical University’s Shui-Nan campus to sign the "2024 Central Taiwan University Climate Change and Education Declaration."
Vice President of Asia University and Director of Sustainability, Dr. Tsong-Neng Wu, stated that Asia University has evaluated various aspects such as teaching and research, campus and public participation, campus environmental management, and planning and administration, to set development goals for a sustainable future, named "Sustainable Asia University."
The ten universities involved in the joint signing include China Medical University, Asia University, Chung Shan Medical University, Tunghai University, Hungkuang University, Providence University, Feng Chia University, Ching Yi University of Technology, National Chi Nan University, and Nankai University. Dr. Ming-Chi Hong, President of China Medical University, emphasized that the signing of this declaration marks significant progress for the central Taiwan university system in climate change education and sustainable development. He urged everyone to pay attention to global climate change and the environmental damage caused by human activities, while also promoting higher education's social responsibility in advancing sustainable development and achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
Dr. Tsong-Neng Wu also highlighted that Asia University has established a university-level Sustainability Promotion Committee based on the AASHE (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education)'s STARS framework. This committee focuses on overall strategic thinking, performance tracking, and communication and integration across departments and disciplines, in order to build consensus on goals and strategies to advance Asia University’s sustainable development.
Asia University Holds "Sustainable Campus Competition" to Inspire Faculty, Staff, and Students to Explore and Innovate on Sustainability Issues
Asia University hosted the 2023 Sustainable Campus Competition, which was divided into faculty and staff groups and student groups. The competition encouraged participants to brainstorm and propose ideas on topics such as energy saving, carbon reduction, ecological environment, climate change, health and well-being, and educational quality, all within the campus setting. The event saw active participation, with proposals incorporating generative AI for self-assessment. Three teams from the faculty and staff group were selected for funding to implement their proposals, while the top three teams from the student group were awarded, along with honorable mentions and the Best Popularity Award. Together, they contributed to creating a better, sustainable campus.
Asia University participated for the first time in the prestigious sustainability event "2023 TCSA Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards" hosted by Taiwan Foundation for Sustainable Energy. Asia University won both the "Sustainable University Excellence Award" and "Sustainable Report Silver Award", demonstrating its overall achievements in promoting sustainability and commitment towards well-being for all as recognized.
President of Asia University, Dr. Chin-Fatt Tsai, said Asia University has been continuously paying attention to environmental issues since its founding 23 years ago. Sustainable development goals of the United Nations and zero net emissions have been included as major goals of the university to protect the living environment together. Asia University regards sustainability as part of university social responsibility. Asia University has been listed in Times Higher Education’s Impact Rankings for 5 consecutive years, with outstanding performance in metrics like "Zero Hunger", "Quality Education", "Sustainable Cities and Communities". It also continues to support projects like internet addiction prevention, dementia care for the elderly, preservation of local culture, agricultural education, and AI technology introduction and education promotion.
President Tsai pointed out that following the spirit and actions of the "Energy Policy", "United Nations 2050 Net Zero Carbon Emissions Declaration", and joining "Taiwan Talent Sustainable Alliance" signed in 2021, Asia University signed the "University Sustainable Development Initiative" and "Sustainable Development Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding" with Taiwan Foundation for Sustainable Energy in 2022. It proactively incorporates SDGs into teaching, research and university governance. Through the Internet of Things platform (AUtalk) it developed to collect complete data to build a smart campus, sustainability has become a way of life, and also gained recognition with the "2022 ESG Sustainable Innovation Award”.

The "CU Link University", comprising Asia University and China Medical University system schools, kicked off its "2023 Sustainable Development Learning Week" at China Medical University on the 13th. With the theme of "Climate Change X Health X Youth Action" this year, through sharing a series of related social responsibility projects, research, films, advocacy actions, social responsibility achievements, and exchange on sustainable development issues, it is hoped that students can combine climate change, health and their own studies, and put them into practice in life.
Asia University Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer Dr. Tsung Neng Wu said sustainable development is the most important issue for humanity at present. As members of higher education institutions, the "CU Link University" should fulfill our social responsibilities. It is gratifying that this year, Asia University has stood out in the evaluation held by the Taiwan Foundation for Sustainable Energy and won the "Excellence School Award" in the category of comprehensive sustainability performance. In the evaluation of sustainability reports, we also won the silver medal honors. In the future, the two schools will continue to cooperate to expand the social impact of the “CU Link University”.

Asia University President Dr. Ching-Fa Tsai and SGS Vice President Mr. Bob Yu Sign MOU to Promote International Standards and Train Sustainable Development Talent
Asia University is actively promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2021, the university signed the "2050 Net Zero Carbon Emissions Declaration" established by the UN. This year, Asia University's sustainability report received third-party verification from SGS Taiwan. On the morning of the 28th, President Dr. Ching-Fa Tsai received the sustainability report statement on behalf of the university. He also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mr. Bob Yu, Vice President of SGS Taiwan, to collaborate on areas such as carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions management. This partnership aims to guide companies in aligning with international standards and train talent for sustainable development.
Interior Design Department Students and Faculty Collaborate with Generative AI to Create Sustainable Campus with Green Materials
Asia University is committed to creating high-quality student living environments. The first floor of the “Gratitude Learning Center” in Dormitory 1 was renovated ahead of the new semester, with an unveiling ceremony held on the morning of the 29th. President Dr. Ching-Fa Tsai praised Professor Rong-Hsuan Jan and her students for their hands-on collaboration, incorporating generative AI in the design process. The design also integrates the university’s motto—“Health, Care, Excellence, Innovation”—and uses green building materials to support the sustainable campus initiative. The goal is for the design space to "tell a good story" and to continue improving other dormitories, creating better living spaces for students.
President Dr. Ching-Fa Tsai emphasized that the campus at Asia University is beautiful, and the indoor spaces aim to provide a more humanized environment for students, enhancing their comfort and joy for living and learning.
This renovation project of the Gratitude Learning Center first-floor lobby was led by Professor Rong-Hsuan Jan with the collaboration of her students, offering an educational opportunity for the students. Artificial intelligence, including ChatGPT, was incorporated into the design process, allowing the space to "speak" Asia University's unique story. The design blends humanities, technology, and sustainability, aligning with global trends to create this remarkable space. The design is modern and streamlined, providing a comfortable feeling, with views of lush greenery and the beautiful Asia University campus from the dormitory.
Creating an AI Realm · Exploring the Metaverse
Collect campus environmental data through IoT devices such as self-made micro weather stations, air boxes, and digital electricity meters to fully monitor real-time environmental changes at various campus locations. By integrating monitoring data and applying a smart IoT platform, relevant campus equipment can be connected and remotely controlled, achieving the goal of sustainable campus development.
Smart campus applications include ALL ENERGY USED (electricity consumption in buildings), ALL POWER GENERATION (green energy generation in buildings), INDOOR AIR QUALITY (classroom air quality monitoring), CAMPUS VEHICLE IN AND OUT (campus vehicle entry and exit management), and FOOTPRINTIN (carbon footprint calculator for class activities), among other related monitoring facilities.
